When Companies Get Personal

by: Bryan Brown (@getvision)

Here at Silverpop, we’re always looking for ways to make our customers’ work processes easier, their marketing campaigns stronger and their overall lives better—delivering happiness, as our 2010 customer conference keynote speaker and Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh would say.

So when I came across a great customer story from one of our product analysts, Sunshine Levin, on Google+ today, I had to share it.

Recently, one of our most active customers sent an email to our product team after listening to one of our Webinars, expressing how excited they were about working with Silverpop’s automated features. Or, more specifically: “OK. So. I'm stupidly excited about the automated test stuff. I'm going to take a screenshot, frame it, and place it on my desk with hearts around it for Valentine's Day. Geek. Love.”

That email found its way to Sunshine, who thought it sounded like a great idea. In fact, she thought it was such a great idea that she decided to do the work for our customer, teaming with others in the product department and our graphic designer John Yardley to create a custom framed screenshot, which she sent off to the client for Valentine’s Day delivery. (Check out some of John’s awesome infographics.)

I’m thrilled that our customers like what we deliver and that automation is making their lives better. But I’m even more excited that our team took the time to listen and cared enough to send a framed V-day gift. In today’s social world, your employees may be one of your best untapped resources for creating a positive brand—a sentiment another one of our former keynote speakers, best-selling author Gary Vaynerchuk, has been known to espouse.

So, what are your favorite examples of exemplary customer service? Share them below.
