I arrived in San Francisco last night for the RSS industry's premier event, the Syndicate conference. Whether you're a publisher, tech firm or marketer, this gathering is the center of the RSS universe.
My colleague, Scott Voigt, and I had the opportunity to attend a private dinner with many big names in RSS, including execs from FeedBurner, Yahoo!, NewsGator, PubSub Concepts, SyndicateIQ, Attensa, Microsoft, SimpleFeed and many more. It was the most wide-ranging, industry-growing RSS conversation in which I've participated. If this kind of cooperation is indicative of how the various groups within RSS can work together, then RSS is going to have the benefit of a directed growth that very few technologies have enjoyed.
One of the interesting folks I met is Scott Gatz. He runs personalization, including My Yahoo! and RSS, at Yahoo!. He has a great blog, and a recent entry goes into wonderful detail about how Yahoo! is integrating RSS into Yahoo! Mail.
A lot of the evening's conversation revolved around individualized RSS (IRSS), and how aggregators and marketers can work together to roll out this emerging technology seamlessly for consumers.
My thanks to Rok Hrastnik for putting this together. I can't wait for the rest of the conference.
