I was trying to think this morning about hot marketing trends and all I could think of was the internet. I tried to think of other hot topics, but the fact-of-the-matter is that there is nowhere we can hide from the web. It’s like a tidal wave taking us along for a ride.
According to an article I was reading in the eMarketer Daily newsletter, “more than half [of internal and corporate communications professionals] use blogs, online video and RSS, or plan to do so in the next 12 months.” WOW! This doesn’t surprise me at all. Why wouldn’t companies want to use the internet to its advantage? I thought of a few reasons why the internet is a perfect marketing tool. Here are a few:
1. E-based communications are a fraction of the price of typical marketing communications
2. Huge global audience
3. Virtually unlimited amounts of information to access
4. Customers can research in their own comfort zone without anyone else watching
5. Easy to refer others to information and communicate ideas
I’ve seen all kinds of companies integrate new techniques to drive customers to their business. I’m a subscriber to Netflix and was delighted to find out that they have recently given their subscribers access to a host of on-demand movies to watch right from their desktop. This up-sell strategy works well for Netflix because they don’t have to spend money on shipping the movies out and most likely drive additional business because of this new product offering. This is a great example of using the Web as a marketing tool.
With so many companies implementing e-based marketing strategies and techniques, it appears the tidal wave will continue to swell. Is your surf board waxed and ready to go?
