With the proliferation of smartphones, the ever-increasing popularity of social media and the explosion of check-ins, companies have exciting new opportunities to connect with customers. Yet the vast majority of businesses aren’t tapping these “mocial” channels to increase their email database, with a 2011 Silverpop survey revealing that only about one in 10 marketers had an email opt-in form on their Facebook page, and only one in 20 used SMS to drive opt-ins. Here’s an illustrated look at the key mobile, local and social channels right now and how you can use them to build your email list:

Duncan - thanks for the comment. I recommend using social sign-in, through services like Foursquare and Facebook, as an easy way to let people sign up for your email programs. You can then also deliver relevant content and emails based on check-in activity. PlacePunch is one product that enables this type of functionality: http://www.silverpop.com/PlacePunch-Demo/

Great ideas, I will put the QR codes to practice with an opt-in that triggers a program of emails. I would love to hear more about how to integrate email sign ups with Facebook and Foursquare check ins.
