The Silverpop Deliverability Team has been notified that AT&T will discontinue the Worldnet service on March 31 and transition those users over to the AT&T service platform. What does that mean for email marketers? It means that if you’re sending to those users with a @worldnet.att.net email address, it will become invalid after March 31.
AT&T is requiring that Worldnet subscribers take action to transfer their service and email address. Essentially, AT&T will be changing the subscriber’s email address from johndoe@worldnet.att.net to johndoe@att.net, but only if the subscriber requests the transfer to occur and if the att.net email address is available.
We don’t recommend that you change every email address in your list from @worldnet.att.net to @att.net in case those email addresses already belong to someone else. The Silverpop Deliverability Team does recommend that you research your list and potentially reach out to these subscribers to get an alternate email address so that they can continue to receive your emails.

Have you actually made the conversion? I’ve tried and the website doesn’t match the instructions from ATT. Forget trying to reach ATT – stating a 60 minute hold time. I’ve tried twice. Hung up after 81 minutes once and got disconnected after hanging in there 90 minutes another time. Most exasperating experience I’ve had in a long time.
When I moved to dsl three years ago, in order to keep my e-mail address without ‘worldnet’ in it, I somehow was still linked to worldnet without a monthly charge.
So, I already have an att.net e-mail address.
There is no way AT&T is permitting many people trying to convert do so by March 31st. Why? For two weeks, I tried to call 800 400 1447 only to get the response, ‘your wait time is 60 minutes.’
Sweet.
I was calling to find out how to get their pertinent e-mail warning letter off my screen each time I wanted to access my inbox.
Re the 60 minute thing: last evening at 8:40 p.m. EST I got a ’40 minute wait’ message. So, I held the phone for two hours and ten minutes while watching tv. Nothing happened.
New-AT&T representatives say ‘We hear the wait times are ridiculous. They don’t have enough customer representatives. Good luck hitting the 3-21 deadline.’
Right now, isn’t Worldnet still part of AT&T? If so, some executive needs to get canned for screwing his clients.
I still am not positive that my situation is exactly right. I can’t reach anyone to ask at Worldnet. As an AT&T, age 80, customer since 1953, their mantra of “We want to be sure to satisfy you” is a bit hollow.
I tried to reach the executive offices in Dallas and NJ respectively, and every attempt got me only 800 400 1447. Call that and see. If you can reach a senior AT&T executive and get someone burned, please do it.
It would make a great column in the WSJ, without my name being used.No permission granted for that if you please.

Att is garbage. After screwing with the phone for 15 minutes or more, I have gotten the ’60 minute wait’ mantra, like everyone else. Jumping through hoops to get there.
This is unacceptable.
My question is simple:
My e-mail address, for probably 20+ years, (addressremoved)@att.net. I use Verizon to log on. The e-mail / snail mail discusses WORLDNET.
Do I have to change?
I’ve had similar experiences and, besides being infuriated, am stumped. I was a charter member when what was then known as AT&T offered an ISP, ie worldnet.att.net.
When I converted to DSL, the worldnet address was dropped and my email was mfritz@att.net. I got mail sent to either version of the address.
I kept my emails on the AT&T server after a nasty virus attack. I logged on to http://www.att.net and accessed my mail. Then SBC swallowed what was left of the company and I had to log onto “www.my.att.net.” Now, with the latest assault on us charter subscribers, I have to log onto http://webmail.att.net.
As a precaution, I want to move my emails off AT&T’s server. But every mail client I try–Outlook, Safari, Thunderbird–can’t detect my settings.
Does anyone know how to take this junk heap that AT&T has created out of Worldnet and detect the settings of my AT&T server? Thanks.
Got the same problem. I was a worldnet customer for 15 years. I had an ATT.net adress. The email said if you had an att.net address in your email that you did not have to do anything. I now have a yahoo account and I have gotten most of my email addresses off my blackberry. ATT has the worst customer service in the world, bar none.
I hope you are able to get some of your email list back.
I have attempted to contact AT&T’s so called customer service line since late February to disconnect my service only to be placed on hold. I have probably spent a good 30 hours on hold only to get disconnected each and every time. Have gone as far as to call AT&T’s Corporate Office in Dallas TX, but imagine that, no one there outside of the operator will take a phone call either. Now, COVAD, the hand picked company that AT&T is trying to force me to sign up for, has hijacked my PC. Try to view anything on the Internet and you get redirected to COVAD with instructions of how to transfer my account to them. Until I can cancel the AT&T service I can not set up another provider. So how is one to cancel the service if AT&T won’t take a phone call to cancel service? Looks like a good possibility for yet another class action law suite against AT&T with respect to their DSL service!
Hello out there! I have spent 3 1/2 weeks trying to cancel my at&t service and been transfered innumerable times, hung up on, put on hold and no one ever returns. Lawsuit if I have ever seen one. I continue to get billed for the service that I no longer want and I am outraged by this company’s dishonest intent to rip us customers off. Has anyone been able to get through either by phone or computer to this dishonest company to disconnect their services?
I have been using att.worldnet and then att.net for many, many years. I followed the instructions to switch when worldnet was discontinued. I was directed to make my account arnochef@yahoo.com. I can no longer access my address list, contact my friends and customers. Corporate greed has again taken hold of ATT. Years ago we had a ATT cell phone and when we cancelled we were hounded for years by collection agencies telling us we cannot cancel. Corporate Amnerica is stealing right and left and taking advantage of customers.
I have spent much time trying to get my att.net account settled. My time is valuable and I have sent the president of ATT an invoive for $250.00 for my time. If I don’t get paid I will go to small claims court.
How do I cancel the phone service I have with ATT? I couldn’t locate how to do it on your site. Thanks.

Ditto on all the above.
I had AT&T for ages also, was able even access my mail from my Nokia 9300, which supported access to AT&T via (Cingular, now AT&T) Life was great!
Then some super Executive came up with a consolidation plan, which wasn’t tested at all.
Now I can’t access my AT&T email via AT&T Wireless anymore.
So I choose to migrate to gmail and consolidate all my mail accounts.
Bingo, only worked for the month of April.
This week AT&T did something new again.
Now I can’t get my mail via gmail from AT&T, can’t logon onto my old yahoo id at the same time as I am signed onto AT&T (powered by Yahoo)
I may decide to change my email, wireless and never again consider AT&T.
The old AT&T has died.
No wonder at work we are using other carriers too!
I may even consider the suggestion of sending my own invoice to AT&T for services rendered. With a follow up in Small Claims court.
Why don’t we all stop paying their billing.
Block your credit card charges from AT&T.
Yesterday I tried to log on to my att email account. I have been paying $7.95 a month for this email account even though my yahoo mail and gmail accounts are free. I did this because so many friends and services had my att email address on file already for over 10 years.
Yesterday, I was directed to att email powered by yahoo. However, it just brings me to the yahoo account I had for years already. In addition, there is no way I can access all my old important emails I saved on att email.
Any suggestions on how I can get access to my old att emails. They were not migrated over to my yahoo email account.
I called customer service at att and yahoo and no one seems to know what is going on. I want to stress that I can’t access emails I saved for over 10 years. Some are very important busines info and others are just sentimental.
that’s incredible.
hey I read your web log all the time, you have many great things to say. My subscribers would like your style, do you imagine you could be a guest blogger for me?
You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
