About the Authors

Bill Nussey – CEO (@bnussey)

Bill NusseyBill Nussey has 20 years of experience as a chief executive for technology companies. Previously, Nussey was president and CEO of iXL Inc., a publicly traded e-business consulting firm. During his tenure, iXL executed its initial public offering, grew revenues from $10 million to $120 million per quarter and served multiple Fortune 500 customers including General Electric, JP Morgan and Delta.

Over the years and under Nussey’s guidance, Silverpop has been the originator of many industry best practices and innovations. As CEO, he has consulted with numerous marketing executives on the use of email as a strategic communications channel and uncovered solutions to many of the challenges marketers are facing. Nussey shares these insights in his groundbreaking book, “The Quiet Revolution in Email Marketing.”

In 2004, Nussey received the Direct Marketing Association’s Marketing Technology and Internet Council Annual Award of Excellence, and was named Marketer of the Year by the Atlanta Interactive Marketing Association. Nussey holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

 

Eric Holmen – Senior Vice President of Marketing (@eholmen)

Eric Holman

A 20-year marketing technology veteran, Eric Holmen brings experience and vision to his role as the leader of Silverpop’s marketing and sales efforts. With a unique combination of strategic development and operational planning skills, Holmen is focused on helping Silverpop and its customers achieve “an unfair advantage.”

Prior to joining Silverpop, Holmen was the senior vice president of the wireless division of The Marketing Arm, an Omnicom company, and president of mobile marketing technology firm SmartReply. He also served in leadership roles in consumer and credit marketing at Sears and at marketing technology firm Catalina Marketing. In addition, Holmen has co-authored three books focused on mobile marketing.

Holmen earned a bachelor’s degree in management from the University of Redlands and a post-grad certificate in Strategy and Innovation from MIT. He has been awarded four patents for marketing and technology process and ranked four times as a president in Fortune’s “Fastest Growing Companies” annual report.

 

Bryan Brown – Director of Product Strategy (@getvision)

Bryan Brown

As the director of product strategy, Bryan Brown is responsible for defining the broad strategic vision of Silverpop’s family of products and helping marketers grow revenue. As such, he is instrumental in leading the innovation and solutions that make up Engage 8, educating marketers on the latest email marketing and marketing automation trends, and sharing tips for more strongly engaging customers and prospects.

Previously, Bryan was the solutions architect and visionary behind Silverpop’s lead-management and marketing automation capabilities. He is a sought-after marketing thought leader, having helped hundreds of businesses adapt and thrive in the ever-changing digital age of marketing.


Will Schnabel – Vice President and General Manager of International Markets (@wschnabel)

Will SchnabelWilliam Schnabel is responsible for overseeing Silverpop’s international operations and expansion strategy across Europe and Asia. Previously, Schnabel was responsible for overall operations and product direction of Silverpop’s Vtrenz solution, an industry-leading demand generation and lead management technology. Prior to Silverpop’s acquisition of Vtrenz in 2007, Schnabel served as its president and CEO, where he guided the company’s growth as an innovative thought leader in the Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and marketing automation industries.


Loren McDonald – Vice President of Industry Relations (@LorenMcDonald)

Loren McDonald McDonald has 24 years of experience in marketing, consulting and strategic planning. Before joining Silverpop in 2008, he was vice president of corporate communications at Lyris, Inc., and had served as vice president of marketing at EmailLabs. McDonald was founder and president of Intevation, an e-marketing services firm specializing in email and search engine marketing services. He has held executive marketing positions at companies including USWeb/CKS, NetStruxr and Arthur Andersen.

McDonald is a columnist for Media Post Email Insider and a former ClickZ Email Delivery columnist. He is a frequent speaker at major industry conferences and events and is often quoted in the press. In 2005, he was selected Marketing Executive of the Year by the American Business Awards (the Stevie’s). An industry newsletter he launched in 2003 has won seven awards including Best B2B e-newsletter from MarketingSherpa and the ClickZ Marketing Excellence Award.


Robert J. Consoli - Director, Deliverability & Provisioning Services

Robert ConsoliRobert Consoli has more than 15 years of experience in the technology industry. He helps resolve deliverability issues by working closely with Silverpop clients to improve their practices and dealing directly with ISPs and inbox providers, ensuring clients have the highest deliverability rates in the industry.

He also manages the process that supports new clients, helping them quickly achieve mastery of Silverpop’s powerful engagement marketing solutions.

 

Richard Evans Director of Marketing, EMEA–Silverpop (@rlevans)

Ellen Valentine

With more than a decade of experience in the field of email marketing, Richard currently leads Silverpop’s marketing efforts throughout EMEA. Prior to his role in London, he managed product marketing for Silverpop, developing the company’s go-to-market strategy for its Engage product line.

Before joining Silverpop, Richard was vice president of interactive services at Target Resource Group, where he spearheaded the development of a suite of online marketing tools, and provided marketing counsel to North America’s largest and most renowned performing arts companies in the areas of email marketing, direct marketing, and ecommerce. He has also served in executive and marketing roles as the managing partner of EM Interactive Media in Atlanta, as well as at Nortel Networks.

 

Stephen Guerra -Manager, Strategy Consulting (@StephenGuerra)

Stephen GuerraAs a recognized expert in the dynamic world of email marketing, Stephen Guerra, brings 10 years of experience to bear when advising clients—from small non-profits to multi-national, Fortune 500 companies—on best practices and innovative techniques to reach their marketing goals. As Silverpop’s former director of deliverability and ISP relations, Stephen has aided several organizations in achieving stellar deliverability rates. Stephen has authored numerous white papers and articles on current email industry developments and best practices. Stephen has guided clients, in both B2C and B2B arenas, to email marketing success in a variety of industries including retail, financial, entertainment and transportation.


Karen Marchione – Director, Customer Marketing (@kmarchione)

Karen MarchioneAs Director, Customer Marketing, Karen Marchione leads efforts to build customer marketing and retention programs for Silverpop. She has been with Silverpop since January of 2009, and is primary focused on creating awareness in the market of Silverpop’s innovative customer base. Prior to Silverpop, she built and managed customer marketing programs at MRO Software, Aspen Technology, and Endeca Technologies.

Ellen ValentineEllen Valentine has more than 20 years of experience as vice president of marketing/CMO for a number of technology companies. She has deep expertise in launching new products, evaluating product and market positions, designing go-to-market strategy, and managing all digital marketing initiatives. She believes that great people and effective technology are foundations for success, but great execution is the ultimate differentiator.

In her role at Silverpop, she’s focused on coaching and mentoring Silverpop clients to adapt and thrive in marketing’s changing role. She’s also a sought-out speaker at industry conferences and events.

Dave Walters is a 20-year digital marketing veteran with a career split almost equally among Fortune 50 corporations, Top 5 interactive agencies and, most recently, the technology start-up world. As the final businessperson before IT, he typically sits at the intersection of business need and technical build—most often with a marketing-driven view of the world.

As a product evangelist, Dave works hands-on with Silverpop customers to sharpen their marketing strategies and architect technology solutions that solve business problems. He most often works with cross-functional stakeholders to bridge the organizational gaps between marketing, IT, operations and executive management.

 

Adam Steinberg – Segment Marketing Director (@adams472)

Prior to joining Silverpop as segment marketing director, Adam was co-founder and CEO of PlacePunch, a location-based marketing product. PlacePunch was acquired by Silverpop in 2011.

An enthusiast for early stage technology companies, Adam was product marketing manager at ThePort Network and Technology Evangelist at Techrigy (Alterian). He holds a Bachelor of Science in economics from Clemson University.

 

Arthur Middleton Hughes – Senior Strategist

Arthur Hughes

Arthur Middleton Hughes is senior strategist at Silverpop, advising customers on email marketing strategy and programs for acquiring more email subscribers. He’s also the founder and vice president of The Database Marketing Institute, Ltd. Arthur has been developing email marketing strategies and designing and maintaining marketing databases for Fortune 500 companies and others for the past 33 years.

A graduate of Princeton University with a master’s degree in public affairs, Arthur taught economics at the University of Maryland for 32 years. When it comes to email and database marketing, he literally wrote the book, authoring Strategic Database Marketing 4th Ed. (McGraw Hill 2012).
