Test Email for Spam Score
It's important to evaluate messages for content that might inadvertently catch the attention of spam filters. To make “spam scoring" an integral part of the message creation process, we’ve developed a proprietary content scoring methodology that not only flags words associated with spam (such as "free"), but also seamlessly displays results from SpamAssassin, the world’s most widely used spam filtering engine.

Reception Testing
When you create HTML email messages that do not render properly, you are much more likely to receive spam complaints. Silverpop has a state-of-the-art reception testing lab that evaluates how well HTML email renders in more than 200 combinations of operating systems, email clients and hardware. We constantly incorporate the information gathered from our reception-testing lab into improvements in our message composition and content scoring software. This enables us to flag characters and coding that, while acceptable in a Web environment, may not render properly in one or more common email clients.

Customer-Specific URLs
With Silverpop, you can define company-specific URLs (i.e., clicks.customer.com) for your click-through tracking and reply-to addresses. This helps prevent SURBL filtering and further insulates you from the practices of other mailers going to the same domains.

Efficient Opt-out Process
Opt-in email marketing must include efficient opt-out processes. For both compliance and deliverability reasons, you should be including an opt-out link in all of your messages. Allowing recipients easy access to an unsubscribe process not only may reduce the number of complaints you receive—a key predictor of deliverability problems—but will also reduce negative brand impressions caused by a difficult or lengthy opt-out process. Silverpop’s built-in opt-in and opt-out processes ensure that it is easy to add an opt-out link to your message that is automatically tied to your list.

Making Sure Your Lists Are Clean
Silverpop's email list management service automatically screens for malformed email addresses on import. We also automatically suppress known “spam traps” and prefixes such as abuse@ that someone may accidentally or maliciously enter into your opt-in process. At your discretion, we also can screen for FCC wireless domains, competitor’s domains, or any other group of addresses you would like to suppress from your mailings.
